Twitter announced on Friday it purchased more than 900 patents from IBM, as well as entered a cross-licensing agreement that could protect the microblogging service from future intellectual property litigation.The move comes just months after IBM slapped Twitter with claims of patent infringement last fall, when it said Twitter specifically violated at least three of IBM’s existing patents.
My Two Cents
Why no public flogging for IBM "trolling" against Twitter?? IBM has a patent portfolio. It has no product or service in this market space. IBM = patent troll. Please note that Twitter likely paid about $600K to $900K per patent. This deal is likely valued in excess of $500 million (maybe as high $800 million). Why not outrage at IBM stealing this money from Twitter's R&D budget or the from startup ecosystem.
