The NSA protests are strategically different than SOPA. During SOPA, major websites completely took their sites offline or blacked out their front pages. Today’s protests put an easier call to action in the bottom half of the screen, such as a way to contact one’s Congressional representative.

My Two Cents

SOPA protests last year dramatically exceeded the NSA protests. What does that really say? I hope not as much as it feels like. To see the difference, look no further than the Google home page on the day of the SOPA protest vs. this week's NSA protests. Ironically maybe the issue really is as simple as -- you can spy on us as much as you want, just don't rub our faces in it. So the real problem with the NSA is -- Snowden. That's what this response is telling me. In a backhanded way, what we are really frustrated with is that the NSA can't keep it's own house in order. So the net result is -- a few people were likely fired over at the NSA. The contractor that was responsible for Snowden is in deep trouble (for a long time, maybe forever) and so long as they can rein in Snowden, the Guardian and others, then the NSA will just continue doing what it has always been doing. I guess this is the bargain between the US Gov't and its people. Here's the rub -- Snowden and the Guardian are playing out their hand little by little. Almost like a form of water torture - drip, drip, drip with the leaks.
