Once again, Uber is under siege from the press and users about surge pricing. Once again, it involved inclement weather in New York. Once again, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick is being incredibly defensive. And once again Kalanick seems to be missing the point over why people are mad and how to fix it.
My Two Cents
Even the amazing Uber, a true unicorn in the startup world, is suffering growing pains. This lack of transparency, which is leading to a lack of trust is a pretty easy fix -- if Uber wants to fix it. Google has never disclosed its algorithm. Maybe Uber won't either. Use Uber or don't may be the response. However, Uber's market is rides, not page rankings. Taxi's have been subject to certain fair standards for a long time now. This will be interesting to see how the Exec's at Uber handle this.
