GE is all in on Big Data powered by Pivotal. Next up: GE’s internet refrigerator that links to your wireless bathroom scale. The bathroom scale sends your (literally) Big Data to the GE internet fridge so it can tell you that the ice cream you’re about to consume will add exactly 0.98 lbs. to your waist line, again powered by Pivotal.

My Two Cents
Information = Accountability. Do I really want that bowl of ice cream if it adds 0.98 lbs? Maybe, maybe not, but to be aware of the causal relationship of eating that ice cream will change people. Even right now in my head as I debate whether it's a good thing or not, I say yes on one hand, I want that information NOW!. On the other hand, I say no, I don't want to hear from a smart-ass refrigerator that eating a bowl of ice cream is going to increase my bad cholesterol by 6 points (or cause me to gain a pound). Oh the world we are entering. It's going to be so different 10 to 20 years from now. And oh by the way, are my health insurance premiums going to go down if i DON'T eat that bowl of ice cream. Will the fridge know and pass along the information to the "all-knowing" actuary in the cloud? Yeah, yeah, I know I am getting carried away...
